Compliance Standards
How we structure every engagement to protect both principals and buyers — and how to verify anything issued in Northwind's name.
Our Standard
Principles
Northwind Petroleums operates within standard international commodity trade practice. We follow these principles on every engagement, without exception:
- Confidentiality before specifics. No product, pricing, or principal-identifying information is shared with a prospective buyer before a mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement is executed.
- Verification before negotiation. Buyers are asked to provide corporate registration documents and a banking reference before indicative terms are discussed.
- Benchmark-linked pricing only. We do not issue flat, undated price sheets to unverified recipients. Indicative terms reference recognized public benchmarks (Platts, Argus, ICE) for the specific grade and volume in discussion.
- Standard documentation only. We work within ICC Incoterms (2020) and UCP 600 practice for letters of credit. We do not use or recognize non-standard instrument names as a substitute for real banking or shipping documents.
- No handling of funds. Northwind does not invoice buyers, collect deposits, or hold funds of any kind on behalf of a principal or buyer. Payment moves directly, bank to bank, against shipping and inspection documents.
- Scoped, dated mandates. Every representation we hold is documented in a specific, dated Letter of Authorization naming Northwind and limiting our authority to non-binding commercial introduction and negotiation support.
Anti-Fraud Notice
The international petroleum trading space has a well-documented history of advance-fee fraud schemes that mimic the language of legitimate trade — often using terms such as "ICPO," "SBLC/DLC via MT700," "Dip Test Authorization," or requests for upfront fees, deposits, or "performance bonds" prior to any bank-verified transaction. Northwind does not operate this way, and we encourage every counterparty to independently verify any document bearing our name.
If you receive an offer, letter, or document referencing Northwind Petroleums that you did not request directly from us, please contact our office using the number or email listed on this site — not a number provided within the document itself — before taking any action or making any payment.
What We Will Never Ask You To Do
- Send funds, a "security deposit," or a performance bond before a bank-verified instrument is in place.
- Wire payment to a "fiduciary account" outside your bank's normal correspondent channels.
- Split freight or shipping costs informally as a condition of a first shipment.
- Treat a soft offer or indicative price sheet as a binding commitment to supply.
